NJ E-ZPass Reconciliation for Turo Vehicles
New Jersey's dense toll activity makes the hard part maintaining a defensible chain from transaction to reimbursement.

New Jersey fleets face dense, frequent toll activity. At scale, the hardest part isn't downloading a statement — it's maintaining a defensible chain from transaction to vehicle to reservation to reimbursement status that a reviewer could reproduce later.
Reconcile continuously
Maintain plate, state, tag number, and active-date history for each vehicle. Import NJ E-ZPass activity on a regular cadence, normalize facility names and timestamps, and deduplicate source rows using stable transaction fields. The NJ E-ZPass mobile app supports making a payment, managing transponders, reporting a lost or stolen tag, managing vehicles (including scanning a license plate to add one), checking balance and account history, and reviewing notification history — genuinely useful for account upkeep, but an operations system is still needed to connect those records to reservations, which the app itself doesn't do.
Make review decisions reproducible
For each exception, record why it was confirmed, corrected, excluded, or left unmatched. Check whether the tag was assigned to that vehicle on the travel date, whether the transaction occurred during the reservation, and whether a duplicate or adjustment exists — only then prepare a reimbursement request under Turo's current rules. Kelviz shows New Jersey operators both transaction matching and reimbursement progress without maintaining parallel spreadsheets.
Where dense activity actually causes problems
New Jersey's toll density means a single day's trip can generate a dozen small transactions instead of one or two — that volume is exactly where a spreadsheet-based process breaks down first, since each row needs the same tag-to-vehicle-on-that-date and time-window checks a lighter-traffic state might only need occasionally. The chain doesn't get harder to maintain per transaction; it just needs maintaining a lot more often.
