Toll-Agency Linking vs. Independent Reconciliation Software

Compare Turo's own toll-agency linking with independent reconciliation software for coverage, exceptions, and control.

Toll charges being invoiced to guests via Turo, tracked through to payout regardless of whether the underlying toll came in through a linked account or an independent import.

Turo currently supports linking your account directly to certain toll agencies — when your toll agency offers that functionality, Turo will send you auto-generated invoices you can review and send to guests. Independent reconciliation software takes a different approach: it organizes provider and reservation data across your whole workflow, not just the accounts Turo can connect to directly. These two options can be complementary rather than an either/or choice.

What agency linking can simplify — and its real constraints

Per Turo's own guidance, linking is set up per vehicle, not once for the whole fleet — every vehicle you add has to be linked separately, and choosing to connect by license plate when a vehicle is actually registered with the toll agency by both plate and transponder is a documented reason invoices stop generating. Confirm current provider coverage and setup requirements directly in Turo's guidance before assuming your agency supports it.

Where independent reconciliation still adds value

An independent system is useful for providers or charge types outside supported linking, historical imports from before you connected, multiple accounts with custom mappings, ambiguous transactions that need review, plate and transponder assignment history over time, tickets and scanned documents (which agency linking doesn't cover at all), and a consolidated audit trail across everything.

The question that actually matters: avoiding double billing

If a toll arrives through both an agency-linked invoice and an independent import, you need a cross-system duplicate check before submitting anything to a guest — otherwise the same charge can get billed twice through two different paths. Ask any independent tool directly: which providers and accounts does it support, does linking cover every transaction type, how are corrections handled, can data be exported, and does the workflow cover tickets at all?

Choose by gap, not by ideology

Use the simplest reliable approach for your fleet. If Turo's supported linking covers your providers and needs, it can remove real work on its own. Where gaps remain — tickets, unsupported providers, historical data, multi-account setups — Kelviz is built to organize those exceptions rather than compete with the official connection. It should be positioned as a reconciliation product, not a substitute for Turo's own integration where that integration already works.

Frequently asked questions

Does linking a toll account eliminate the need for reconciliation software?

Not necessarily — review coverage, exceptions, duplicates, evidence, and any unsupported sources (especially tickets) before assuming it's a complete solution.

Can I use agency linking and independent software at the same time?

Potentially, but you need a control in place to prevent the same underlying charge from being billed to a guest twice through two different paths.
